Prologus in Zachariae Prophetiam.
Secundo anno Darii regis Medorum Aggaeum et Zachariam prophetasse, lectiones eorundem declarant.
Sed hac causa Aggaeus Zachariae in ordine prophetarum praelatus esse videtur, quod eum duobus mensibus, ut prae-
dictorum lectiones ostendunt, in prophetia praecessisse invenitur, et ad reparationem templi praecepto Dei populum ani-
masse,ut Esdras refert, dicens, In secundo anno Darii regis Persarum prophetaverunt Aggaeus et Zacharias filius Ad
do prophetae, super Iudaeos qui erant in Iuda et Ierusalem, super Israel in nomine Dei Israel super eos. Tunc surrexe-
runt Zorobabel filius Salathiel, et Iesus filius Iosedec, et principes eius: inchoaveruntque aedificare domum Dei, quae
est in Iersusalem. Quibus cum adessent prophetae, exhortatione sua adiuverunt eos. Nem et populum Israel ab imitatio-
ne paternorum delictorum, per suam admonitionem idem propheta cupiens revocare, verbis lectione comprehensis
usus est, Vidi nocte: et ecce vir ascenderat super equum rubeum etcetera. Vidit propheta virum equo rubeo sedentem,
et stantem in medio myrteti umbrosi : cuius visionis haec solutio est : Vir ascendens equum rubeum: licet angelus in-
telligatur: tamen quia praedicti coloris equum conscendere visus est, vindictam sanguinis in eam gentem significat af-
ferendam, quae populum Israel in captivitatem redegerat. Nam et Esaias propheta, per ruborem vestimentorum, inter
gentes vindictam cum sanguine Deo proferendam demonstrans his verbis usus est, dicens, Quis est iste qui venit
de Edom, tinctis vestibus de Bosra etcetera. Stantem ver in medio myrteti umbrantis quod dixit: laetitiam populo af-
futuram, per myrteti significationem voluit designari. Eius ligni Moyses in Levitico cum faceret mentionem, ait, Acci
pietis die prima fructus ligni speciosi, ut laetitiam populi, per bene olentis ligni et speciosi umbraculum demonstra-
ret. Sed hanc visionem quae liberationem populi, et vindictam de adversariis affuturam demonstrat, ob hoc noctu pro-
pheta se vidisse memoravit, quia populum Israel in prima liberatione de Terra-Aegypti, noctu discessisse constabat:
cuius exempli quia praefens populus aliquam partem in se retinere videbatur, liberatio eiusdem ac teditus captivita-
tis de terra Chaldaeorum per noctem prophetae est revelata.

En tibi, Christiane Lector, Hebraica propria nomina restituta, quae in Bibliis utriusque testamen
ti sparsa leguntur. In quibus, quid praestitum sit ultra vulgatam editionem, animadverte. Primum, sin
gula vocabula ad Hebraeos codices examinata sunt, et restituta quae corrupte scribebantur: ita, ut
eadem sit scriptura et orthographia nominum in hoc libro, atque in ipsis Bibliorum locis unde desum-
pta sunt. Deinde, interpretationem quae in Bibliis Compluti impressis erat, in omnibus fer secuti
sumus. Praeterea si nomen viri incidit, si foeminae, si populi, aut idli: si urbis, provinciae, regionis,
fluvii, denique etiam si montis: rursum si vir fuit binomius aut mulier: item si civitas, aut locus aliquis
plura habuit nomina, annotatum est. Postremo, ne posthac tam facile ea corrumpi possint, librum Biblio
rum et caput singulis adscripsimus: in quo quantum laboratum nobis fuerit, tametsi res nonnullus exigua
videatur, tu ipse reputabis. Adhaec nominibus quorum characteres proprii ignorabantur, quibus di-
ctiones fuerunt conscripte, D literam adiici placuit, quae interpretationem esse dubiam significaret. Graecis autem, G literam, quae petitam esse Graecis interpretationem admoneret. Fruere igitur Lector, et Vale.
