Provenance notes on differences with 1538.NT.eng.MC.a, 'This book prob. belonged to the royal household, as the binding displays Hen. VIII's arms and the Tudor rose. It was at one time stolen from this library, and sold to a bookseller; but it was recovered through information given by Mr. F. Fry.' Coll. Feb. 1900 H.J.M. (fl1v); announcement for sale of possibly a 1538.NT.eng.MC.a copy, because it has a purple binding with gild edges (fl2r); W. Blair 1819: comparison to Tyndale's version of the NT, 'The woodcuts to Revelation are similar to those of Tyndale, but larger in size and better executed. I suspect this copy was Henry the 8th's. W. B[lair].' (fl2v); obliterated provenance (o8v); notes on missing preliminary matter, 'Two imperfect copies are at ... for sale.' signed W. Blair April 1821; 'Two incomplete copies of the N.Test. by Tyndale in St. Paul's Cathedral have a great many of the identical woodcuts and initial letters in this vol. but the type of Tyndale's is much larger than this of 1538.' (ep1r); 'The Hon Mr. Granville brought a copy of this for 52,10 English pounds very lately ... Wilson Esq. mentioned the circumstance April 1839.; 2 copies at St. Paul's; 'a leaf missing at Mat 27 - R.B.G.' (ep1v); note on binding: 'A sixteenth century English binding in the style of Jean Petit, a French binder whose first book in this style was issued in 1510. This English copy, with the initials G.G. (sometimes identified with Garret Godfrey), displays the royal arms, with angels as supporters, on one side; on the other side is the Tudor rose, also with angels as supporters, and the shields of St George and the City of London. Similar, but distinct, bindings were issued by several other bindings.' (leaf: no reproduction)

Other comparison with 1538.NT.eng.MC.a: the same type before N1; different type: N1r-N8v, O6, P1r-P8v, f3 (only the signature and the catchword differs), i7r (last letter of the catchword almost falls off), the woodcut k5v is placed on k6r and the text of k6r on k5v (with scripture references on de left side of the text in stead of the right side as in 1538.NT.eng.MC.a), n5 has correct a signature as opposed to 1538.NT.eng.MC.a, 'o' from signature 'o5' has gone, different colophon on o8v
